As per   hospital authorithies , If the cornea is cloudy or scarred from an eye injury or disease, vision
becomes blurred. Scar tissue and other disorders/eye diseases can block light rays and prevent normal vision. The effect has been described by many patients as somewhat like looking through rippled glass or only see light started seeing again with corneal grafting.
The clouded cornea /diseased cornea  can be removed and replaced by clear, healthy
tissue from a generous
eye donor. A person may obtain a corneal transplant through
the request of a qualified eye surgeon (Ophthalmologist). This type of surgery has
restored sight and changed the lives of thousands from children, to senior citizens
to those in the prime of life.

There are different types of grafting  like deep penetrating keratoplasty, lamellar keratoplasty , Deep Anterior lamellar keratoplasty and Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty which are available at G.G.S.I.EYE RESEARCH & CURE CENTRE . These types of surgery has restored sight and changed the lives of thousands from children, to senior citizens to those in the prime of life.

What is a Corneal Transplant or grafting?

First, the cloudy tissue is removed with a cylindrical cutting instrument called a
trephine. The same trephine is used to cut out the donor cornea so that the shapes
are identical. Then, the clear donor cornea is sewn into place. If the graft is successful,
light rays will once again be focused onto the retina.

What are the indication of corneal grafting?

The most frequent indications  :

1. Pseudophakic bullous keratopathy- which is a corneal decompensation that occasionally     follows cataract surgery.
2. Corneal ulceration.
3. Corneal scars.
4. Keratoconus.
5. Herpes simplex and Varicella zoster viral infections or fungal infection leading to scarring.
6. Fuch’s endothelial dystrophy.
7. Congenital opacities of the cornea.
8. Chemical burns of the eye.
9. Opacity of cornea due to any injury.

The Corneal Transplantation Procedure

cloudy or diseased cornea

The Donor cornea is prepared using a  corneal trephine to create the corneal “button.” The corneal button will become the transplanted cornea.

The diseased, or scarred, cornea is then removed using a corneal trephine, creating a “bed” for the transplant cornea.

Finally, the donor cornea is gently sewn into place with ultra-fine sutures
