SAFETY TIPS
Do's
Organise a community display of fireworks rather than individual handling of
crakers.
Always use a long candle/"Phooljhari" for igniting firecrackers and keep elbow joint straight to increase the distance between the body and the crackers.
Never hold a burning "Anar" or any other cracker in hand.
Keep two buckets of water handy. In the event of the fire, extinguish flame by pouring buckets of water. Every major fire is small to begin with.
In case of burns, pour large amount of water on burnt area.
The patient should be taken to a burns specialist or a major hospital. Do not be
panicky.
In case of eye burns wash the eye with copious amount of tap water for 10
minutes and take the victim to a hospital.
In case of major burns, after extinguishing the fire, remove all smouldering
clothes. Wrap the victim in a clean bedsheet.

Do not store fire crackers near burning candles and diyas.
Do not light fire crackers in narrow bylanes, preferably use open areas and parks.
Do not wear synthetic clothing. Preferably wear thick cotton clothing
Do not allow children to handle fire crackers independently without supervision.
Do not apply any cream or ointment or oil on burnt area.
Do not drive recklessly when taking a burn victim to the hospital. A delay of ½ - 1 hour is immaterial.
